Information Technology is an integral part of today's society and at Tannum Sands State High School we aim to develop those essential skills that are necessary to cope with these new technologies. Information and Communication Technologies have been integrated in all key learning areas, and our junior IT courses are structured to expose the students to the Certificate I in Information and Communication Technology competencies as endorsed by the National Training Quality Council. These core skills are then enhanced through our senior IT courses of Information Processing and Technology and Certificate I, II and II (Networking) in Information and Communication Technology.

The Business and IT Skills Centre (BITS Centre) is a split campus institution where students undertake business and IT studies in a business environment. The Centre is located at Boyne Island Smelter and students are exposed to inductions, occupational health and safety and code of conduct that are required in an industrial workplace. Students not only develop the knowledge and skills required by the subject/strand for which they are enrolled (These include BCT, BOM, Accounting and IT) but also essential employability skill are developed and reinforced through the inclusion in a printing business enterprise.
